Vitality of the Young French Figurative Painting

Deployed for the first time in a transversal way on the two art centres, the MO.CO. and the MO.CO. Panacée, the Immortelle exhibition offers a new and ambitious panorama of young French figurative painting.

At the MO.CO., emblematic artists of the French scene, born from 1970 to the early 80s, will be presented. The generous and sensitive exhibition intends to pay homage to painting, in its physical, materialist, erotic and romantic aspects.

At the MO.CO. Panacée, the new generation of the mid-80s and 90s offers a plural vision of the future of figurative painting through a revisitation of the great traditional genres mixed with the contribution of contemporaneity and conceptual issues.

JKB Fletcher:
BLUE WORKS

The Kunstverein Dillingen e.V. will be exhibiting works by JKB Fletcher from 29 January 2023.

The 40-year-old artist is showing new works in Dillingen: mountain views and sea horizons, that foreground the sublimity, grandeur and vastness of nature.

Opening: Sunday, 29 January 2023 at 11:00 am in Zentrum August Clüsserath, in presence of the artist. Introduction by Wolfgang Birk.

Dans le but d'agrandir continuellement ses collections, dont la base remonte aux legs de trois grandes collections bourgeoises du 19e siècle, la Villa Vauban acquiert régulièrement des œuvres d'art et continue à recevoir de nombreuses donations. D'un côté, cela permet de compléter les époques et thématiques présentes dans les collections d'art ancien, notamment l'art néerlandais du 17e siècle et la peinture française du 19e, mais aussi d'autres courants artistiques européens. De l'autre côté, le musée élargit sa grande collection d'art luxembourgeois, allant de la fin du 19e siècle jusqu'à l'art contemporain. L'exposition présente une cinquantaine de peintures, gravures, sculptures et photographies, du 17e jusqu'au 21e siècle.

Le visiteur y découvre des ensembles d'œuvres, avec des correspondances sur le plan du motif, de l'époque ou de l'artiste, mais aussi des juxtapositions entre l'art ancien et l'art contemporain. Les sujets présents dans l'exposition sont scènes de genre, paysages, natures mortes, portraits (d'enfants) et autoportraits (d'artistes), animaux, saints et scènes bibliques.

Parmi les artistes, se distinguent les Néerlandais Bartholomeus van der Helst (1613–1670) avec trois portraits, Adrian de Gryef (1670–1722) avec une Nature morte au gibier et Gillis van Tilborch (1625–1678) avec une Scène d'auberge. Du célèbre peintre suisse Alexandre Calame (1810–1864), une douzaine de gravures de paysages alpestres sont exposées. D'autres peintures remarquables sont une Adoration des rois mages d'après Carlo Maratta (1625–1713), deux belles scènes de plage de George Willem Opdenhoff (1807–1873) ainsi que le portrait du sculpteur Henri Schmitt par Auguste Trémont (1892–1980).

L'exposition a en outre été l'occasion d'approfondir la documentation des œuvres sélectionnées, ce qui a rendu possible plusieurs attributions et identifications de motifs.

The exhibition presents a selection of donations and new acquisitions, together with the museum's own collections. Visitors will discover a wide range of thematically diverse works from the 17th century to the present day, including works by Johann Heinrich Roos (The Hunting Dogs and White Fawn, 17th century), Bartholomeus van der Helst (Portrait of a Boy with a Goldfinch, 17th century), after Charles Antoine Coypel (Two children making card castles, 1753), after Carlo Maratta (The Adoration of the Magi, 18th century), Henri van Assche (Mill on the banks of a river, 1809), as well as a large number of etchings by Alexandre Calame (1810 - 1864).

Other highlights of the exhibition are works by renowned Luxembourg artists from the 19th century to the present day. These include works by Jean-Baptiste Fresez (1800 - 1867) and Auguste Trémont (1892 - 1980), works by the impressionist Dominique Lang and 'secessionists' such as Joseph Kutter, Harry Rabinger and Jean Schaack.

Recent donations and acquisitions complement the museum's collection and enrich it with new focal points.
